The more re-search I have done the more intriguing this piece of paper becomes Because I just found the song that you wrote and it was NOT called according to these people that Claim to be the original writers of it The Yankee Nation...BUT..."UNCLE SAMS FARM

Nathan Barker, arr.  "Uncle Sam's Farm: Song and Chorus."  [Music: Judson J. Hutchinson.]  Lyrics: Jesse Hutchinson[, Jr.]  First line: "Of all the mighty nations In the east or in the west, O this glorious yankee nation Is the greatest and the best."  First line of chorus: "Then come along, come along, Make no delay; Come from every nation, Come from every way."  (Boston: Geo. P. Reed, 1850).

Score may be found at "The Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music," levysheetmusic.mse.jhu.edu

An excellent recording of "Uncle Sam's Farm" is included on Eastman Wind Ensemble and Chorale, Homespun America (2 CDs, Vox Music Group CDX-5088, 1993).

Jesse Hutchinson, Jr., wrote "Uncle Sam's Farm" in 1848 to be sung to the tune, "Walk Into the Parlor, Boys, and Hear the Banjo Play." It was then issued in several broadside editions.

Later, Judson Hutchison composed a new, but somewhat similar melody. That is the form of "Uncle Sam's Farm" which became well known.

By 1849, Judson Hutchinson had become strangely shy about publishing his songs and about taking credit for those compositions that were published. It wasn't until late in life that he returned to his normal old self in this respect. Ludlow Patton credited the best-known "Uncle Sam's Farm" melody to Judson.

I wonder WHY he became so shy about taking
credit?

Could it be that he in fact did not write these words at all and stole the melody from someone else....Jefferson Pembrook Tracewell.....This could very well be THE ORIGINAL VERSION Stolen and hidden away in a motel room where someone thought it would never be found so the person who stole it could take the credit!!!

1800's Plagiarism Could Be...

My advice to you is to put this precious document somewhere very safe and take it to a Professional Restorer that could help identify the age of the parchment and take it from there.
(You may even want to contact someone with some type of legal background on plagerism about this as well)

Old parchment documents such as this in good condition do not sell for more than the value that I have...HOWEVER...if it would turn out to be the First Draft Copy of this SONG by the ORIGINAL Author that was stolen by another party...WELL...lets just say it could be worth a whole lot more!
