| History Of The Item: | In the early part of the 1900's, early documents that first surfaced in the civil war era, were copied on a brown wavy and somewhat rippled parchment paper that bears a striking resemblence to your copy of Clement Moore's poem...some of the material that was copied were government declarations, confederate bills, Mark Twains handnotes etc etc...I cannot certify this document as original as it has all of the markings and characteristics of a copy....Original parchement does not fade and discolour to the even shading of yours and of course there is the matter of the printing at the bottom of the page...probably produced within the past 75 years at the most and perhaps even later...Promotion company's are still producing copies of famous documents on this type of stock parchment that is designed to look old and "antique".. |
| Appraiser Tips: | Have this framed as a souveneer which was it's original intent.. |
| Research Sources: | decades of exposure to old documents both original and copied |
| Appraiser Comments: | this piece has a great deal of sentimental value as it has been in the family for so many years and is a bit of an heirloom even though it is not an original document..the subject matter is famous and is a piece of Holiday folklore..great family item for fireside chats and to hang around the Xmas tree..... |
