| Appraiser Comments: | The early poems from the Esdaile manuscript book appeared for the first time in Professor Dowden’s “Life of Percy Bysshe Shelley”, published in the year 1887 to 1890. Edward Dowden, 1843–1913, was an English critic from Ireland. He is best known as a Shakespearean scholar and as a biographer of Shelley (1886). Mary Shelley edited and promoted the works of her husband, the Romantic poet and philosopher Percy Bysshe Shelley. She was a British novelist, short story writer, dramatist, essayist, biographer, and travel writer, best known for her Gothic novel Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus (1818). So it can go unsaid that she was pretty famous herself. This is a rare find (especially with the signature) and may be difficult to sell on a regular market. Ebay may be a possibility but you might have better luck trying collectible book stores or specialty rare books book stores. Good luck with your book. |
