An appraiser will visit the auction listing on the web, view the item, and give their opinion as to the authenticity of the item as well as the fair market value and replacement value. 

Experts are well versed in the challenges of the online marketplace and will be able to 'red flag' potential problems, provide questions to ask the seller and generally give you their unbiased opinon about the details of a listing. An expert may also, from time to time, provide their opinion regarding aspects of an online auction listing including, but not limited to, the accuracy and/or integrity of the listing details and any aspects related to the listing.
