Six people, a customized bus and the open road – it sounds like Kerouac, or maybe the next edition of Survivor. Either way, it was a great adventure for us.

WhatsItWorthToYou.com is growing, and we decided to spread the word in person. Our family – me, WhatsItWorthToYou.com president Erik Kafrissen, my wife Clare and our four kids – hit the road on March 1, trading the comforts of our log home in the countryside near Lanark, Ontario (about an hour or so west of Ottawa) for the joys of a 36-foot long, cartoon-decorated bus.

We spent roughly four months on the road in all, traveling south along the eastern seaboard to Florida, west across to California and back home to Canada through the American Midwest.

Along our route, we stopped at antique and collectibles shows, met with dealers and collectors and expanded the network of online appraisers affiliated with WhatsItWorthToYou.com.

As exciting as the cross-continent tour of antiques and collectibles events was to me, I have to admit not everyone who made the journey was as avid a collector as I am. Still, it was pretty neat to share the trip with our four kids -- seven-year-old Kai, five-and-a-half-year-old Sile, four-year-old Bridget and two year-old Isaiah – and to see the world through their eyes.
